Despite our best efforts to use everything, the combined food waste generated at the Joinery – especially after big events – is too much even for our chickens to eat!

As part of our commitment to reducing our footprint as much as possible, we would love to process all our waste on-site – and that includes all our food scraps and other garden waste.

Right now, we're working with Green Industries South Australia to find the best system for the Joinery. We're sourcing a fully automated composting machine that converts organic waste like fruit and vegetable peelings, fish bones and meat scraps into rich, high-quality organic fertiliser in 24 hours.

The compost can then go directly onto our community garden – a perfect closed loop!
